Job Description

A top tier bank is looking for a technical Valuation Specialist.

Overview of the team:

This role is in the Valuation Services Group (VSG) EMEA team in the Global Valuation Group covering a wide variety of products across all asset classes (FX, Credit, Rates Derivatives, Equity, Funds, Commodities, etc.) that require the use of a large range of models and systems to perform the trade valuations. This will require a good understanding of fixed income products, particularly derivatives, and an appreciation of the process involved in pricing them.

Key responsibilities:

  • The primary responsibility is to participate in trade valuations: this involves understanding the trade, trade modeling, liaising with Front Office (FO) to confirm prices and running the production. This will entail close interaction with other global VSG teams for which the candidate will be responsible for training and development
  • Ensure on time delivery of in order to meet internal and external deadlines
  • Performing independent price verification on Trader produced prices
  • The candidate will also be expected to look for ways to improve the efficiency and scalability of the processes he is responsible for, be it through automation or working with FO to change service provision in order to move to Straight Through Processing (STP)
  • The candidate will need to have a solid technical background in order to build models and answer client queries or justify price moves
  • Work with different stakeholders to improve existing processes and outputs
  • Participate in Change the Bank (CTB) initiatives of the team as well as domain-wide
  • Provide necessary transparency of controls done either for quality assurance or for final validation and control performance
  • Running Risk Engine and sanity checking output , and correcting and rerunning errors if required
  • Escalating aging and/or contentious issues in daily reports and to direct supervisor
  • Perform User Acceptance Testing (UAT) requirements on processes
  • Ability and willingness to work on ad hoc requirements from Front Office and other stakeholders

Skills & Qualifications 

  • Technical Requirements: Good knowledge of Excel. Bloomberg, DBAnalytics and knowledge of trade capture systems used in Bank's would be a plus
  • Education requirements: MSc in a science / numerate discipline (Finance, Mathematics, Physics, etc)
  • Be a team player
  • Be interested (intellectual curiosity) in valuation problems (all aspects of quantitative finance and methodologies)
  • Have the skills to drive reform processes (IT, organisation) and workflow
  • Have excellent interpersonal & relationship skills
